The sound of your singing voice,

is NOT set in stone.

Most singers believe that you can only adjust the sound of your singing voice slightly.

Or, that you have to accept or love it the way it is or that there’s such a thing as finding your REAL singing voice.

While I’m all about being authentic and shaping your sound towards something that feels like you,

the sound of your singing voice is NOT set in stone.

It’s extremely malleable even.

Just listen to Britney Spears who had a more adult sound when she was 12 than when she was 20.

Personally, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with any of her sounds,

the point is that it’s SUCH a difference.

It’s almost like you’re listening to a completely different person.

Or listen to Nicole Scherzinger doing impressions of Shakira, Alanis Morrissette and Britney Spears.

Or take Ariana Grande doing impressions of Celine Dion, Shakira or Christina Aguilera.

Where she sounds waaay darker and has much more density in her sound compared to when she does an impression of Britney Spears.

Or when she sings with the sound Ariana herself is famous for!

It’s not that Ariana Grande and Nicole Scherzinger are these vocal unicorns with special genes. NO!

We ALL have many shades and flavours to our voices

And singers who believe that their sound is set in stone, are at risk of giving up too early on their dream of being a singer who is part today’s music industry.

Because they just don’t sound like one.

I know how hard it is to have that dream and not being able to get the sounds you want out of your voice.

And it doesn’t help that as a society, we tend to put singers who tick the boxes of what works in today’s music industry, on a pedestal.

Like it’s magic or something.

And if that’s you, please consider that your human body is not wildly different from any other human body.

Just a bit.

So, if these humans can do it, maybe when you use similar habits,

you can do the same.

It really comes down to the following.

Every famous pop singer out there, has certain sound characteristic that make them similar to other pop singers.

And every one of them has put their own spin on it.

That’s it!

If you can do that, you’re set.
